Famous for it's Jungle Boat tours and being a filming location for The Creature From The Black Lagoon, Wakulla Springs State Park is one of TSG's favorite places in Florida. The Jungle Boats are undergoing maintenance so no tours are on offer, which is a bit of a drag.
However, the main attraction as far as we're concerned is the diving tower. Jumping into that crystal clear 68° water is as much fun today as it was 20 years ago when we first visited this iconic Florida location.

Interesting. And curious. A body of water in Florida that lacks alligators.
Perhaps the Creature holds them at bay? Now that his film career flattened out?
Well, there ARE alligators in the main spring area. Some of my fellow tower jumpers spotted a decent-sized (4 foot or so) specimen cruising the opposite shore when I was there. The lifeguards dispatched a boat to check it out, but there was no warning issued to swimmers. My sense is alligators tend to avoid the noise and constant commotion coming from the swimming area. As a matter of fact, there's a 11 ft stuffed gator in the lobby of the Lodge..."Old Joe" was a resident of the springs for many years and never had a negative human encounter until he was shot by an unknown assailant in 1966.
