Lord almighty, the temperature was rising a few days ago at the apartment across the way. Apparently the resident had gone off to run some errands and forgotten to turn their toaster oven off. An observant neighbor realized the beeping smoke detector was more serious than someone's burnt toast and the fire department was called in to deal with the (fortunately) minor incident.
