A Case Of Mistaken Identity

Today TSG visited the extremely impressive Deming Luna Mimbres Museum, which has aptly been described by some as "the Smithsonian of the Southwest". In one of the display cases of vintage cameras we got a little blast from our past*: an Argus C3 35mm camera.

Looking a little closer though, we noticed something amiss. The label for the camera read "Kodak Brownie model B 1891-1903"

Hmmm, we said to ourself, that's not right...the Argus C3 is pretty famous when it comes to vintage 35mm cameras. It even has its own wiki page:

Add to that, the Argus doesn't look anything like the Brownie 2 Model B:

So somebody made a mistake. No biggie really, but very curious. And in case you're wondering, we didn't say anything to the staff, but on second thought maybe we should have.

*Our dad had one, and one day TSG the younger decided to see how the thing worked...by dismantling it into it's component parts. Unfortunately the parts didn't go back together as easily as they came apart and we ended up with a non-functioning camera. The only good thing about the situation was that dad hadn't used the camera for years, having moved on to other models. Thus ended our budding camera repair tech.

Thumbs Up, Chuck!

Many thanks to Chuck, the on-site neon glass-bending guy at the Ignite Sign Art Museum in Tucson. He not only offered a very informative talk and how-to demonstration on the art of making neon glass, but gifted us the finished double-looped tube. Now all we have to do is keep it intact for the remainder of the road trip.

Finished artifact (note:neon glow not included with free samples)

MIM's The Word

A tiny sampling of what's on display at the fantastic Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix AZ. Keep an eye out for Glen Campbell playing the bagpipes

Note: The Be Bop Deluxe song has a copyright flag so there's a chance you might get treated to an advert during playback.
