Kon as in The Kon Tiki Inn, TSG's first choice when visiting Pismo Beach. Every room is an oceanfront room with views extending north from San Luis Bay to the Pismo Dunes in the south. There's a bluff-top pool and hot tub, and a private stairway to the beach. Guests also have access to the Pismo Beach Athletic Club fully equipped with just about any exercise machine you could want and an indoor lap pool, not to mention both raquetball and pickleball courts. Highly recommended.
It goes without saying that biscuits and gravy are one of TSG's favorite road trip breakfast menu items, often featured in hotel "free" continental offerings. On those days when the hotel comes up short, Johnsonville has the perfect solution...just as long as the hotel room has a microwave oven. It's not quite the same as the real(?) thing, but it will more than suffice in a pinch.
One of the things about being on the road is the utter sameness and dreckiness of the hotel TV offerings. More often than not, TSG drops back and punts to the seemingly endless marathon of The Office on Comedy Central or the Freeform Channel. Like meatloaf, the misadventures of the Scranton Dunder-Miflinites is a kind of video comfort food: familiar, inoffensive, and it doesn't lose a whole lot of appeal after being served up multiple times on a regular basis.
On this trip though, the program has escaped the screen and made it out on to the street...and we're not sure how we feel about it.
