And it was a good day in Hell, too. There was a huge hatch of California Tortoise Shell Butterflies the week of our visit, and the air was full of them. Alas, they were too small to capture with the low-end video equipment at our disposal. Take it from me, though, it was a sight to behold; hundreds of thousands of butterflies filling the air, sweeping across roads and trails in the high country of Northern California on a picture-perfect day. Pretty friggin' amazing.
