When we saw this in the gift shop at Playland Not-At-The-Beach,there was absolutely no question that we'd be taking a copy home. Unfortunately it does not mention either Compan or The Last Man On Earth contest.

Really In A Pickle
Pickle suit, that is. |
Seen during our recent visit to the newly-opened Mr. Pickle's Sandwich Shop across from The Pruneyard.
TSG has wanted to visit Mister Pickle's for many years, as our usual route to Yosemite passes by the location on the corner of 4th and South Livermore. We always wondered how Mr. P's offerings might stack up against Togo's or Subway or Gunther's Deli.
So, after all these years of not stopping in Livermore, we got our chance to sample the curiously-named eatery's menu. We tried a BLT w/avo on toasted sliced sourdough, and it was pretty good--not worth writing home about, but still decent fodder for our kind of blogpost. To be honest, now that we have the pickle guy pics, it's doubtful that we'll be stopping in again.
UPDATE--
TSG encountered a possible sandwich-shop match made in heaven during our San Fran ramble this morning. We can only hope that Mr. Bread doesn't get jealous.

Still Mad About Monkees
After a good concert, we usually have a kinda-sorta joyful buzz that lasts for a couple of days or maybe a week. However, much to our surprise and delight, we still have a nice MonkeeBuzzTM going on three weeks after the fact. Since the ninth, we've used Head and The Monkees 2001 Summer Tour (uncut) as workout videos. We've also purchased The Monkees Music Box 4-CD set (nice find at Streelight Records) and the MP3 deluxe versions of Headquarters and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. Not only that, but we've just started reading The Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora. Without a doubt, Monkeemania still lives here in our little(teeny tiny itsy-bitsy) corner of the 'net!

Dangerous Salsa
No turkey-baste [sic] posts for TSG today!
Instead, we offer a salsa PSA:
This stuff is hazardous to your health.
(It causes an unhealthy increase in tortilla chip consumption)

Things You Might See In Lodi
As they say, a nice place to visit.TSG is milking Lodi for two posts this week because our attempt to post from the Lodi Holiday Inn Express was rudely interrupted by a complete internet (and phone) outage at the lodging house. Luckily the the hotel's cable/dish service was not affected and we were able to catch our favorite on-the-road programs Jersey Shore and Pawn Stars.

Oh Lord
Unlike the character in John's song, we weren't stuck here. TSG was just passin' thru in search of some sandhill cranes. (and we found 'em, too!)

Trying To Catch A Buzz
A V-1 Buzz Bomb, that is.
In this photo from my old copy of Air War Against Hitler's Germany, we see a Hawker Tempest in in hot pursuit of the rocket-propelled terror weapon. The caption in the book does not reveal the outcome of the aerial chase.
Somewhere in the TSG archives, we're sure we have a photo of a V-1 (and probably a Tempest) from a museum someplace. But as usual, we're too lazy tonight to dig it up. Maybe later.

Thursday Nite @ The Freebie Table
As usual, an eclectic selection
TSG wonders,though...why would anyone give away a perfectly good dented can of green beans?

Behind Blue Eye?
Someone knows what it’s like
To find a blue eye ball,
A big blue eye ball,
While walking on a beach...
Thanks to Gino Covacci of Pompano Beach for inspiring today's post!

Whaaa...Ed's Pictures Are Better Than Ours!
Of course it helps when the darn thing flies right past your office window as opposed to 6 miles away. Besides, TSG's shuttle pics have that familiar semi-authentic NASA super-telephoto effect as opposed to the pristine, super sharp, almost fake look displayed in the lower image.

Whence The Baja Brigade Dot Com?
TSG was alarmed this afternoon when we encountered the dreaded "server not found" when trying to relate our garage band days to our landlord Sister Eileen. Perhaps we can get the scoop tomorrow.

Carnivores With Incomplete Guts @ McClure's Beach
Anemones have a lot going for them, pun-wise. Beyond the obvious "friend or" line, they have adhesive feet and a combination mouth/anus. We'll leave it to you to take that concept and run with it on your own.

For The Birds
Unfortunately we missed Miss Hedren's annual Labor Day visit to Bodega and the infamous nearby bay. The locals have nothing but good things to say about her, but it's clear the real draw is the legend of a portly bald dude who made a movie or two.

Roll Out The Barrel
During our visit to Battery Townsley today, we thought, "What this place really needs is a 16" gun!"
Well, as it turns out, that canon pad won't be empty too much longer. A 16 inch gun that originally graced the USS Missouri was saved from the scrapheap and it will be making the trip from Hawthone NV to the left coast later this month.
The 120 ton barrel will be making the trip on a rig smaller (?!) than the one that hauled Michael Heizer's 340 ton rock to the LA MOA earlier this year. But the gun's road trip will be three times as long. (311 vs 105 miles). Any way you look at it, that's one helluva road trip.
