The The James Museum in St Petersburg is must-see for anyone interested in artistic depictions of "The West"--the land, it's history, and it's human and animal denizens. One work that caught our eye in the New West Gallery was Billy Schenck's King George, which portrays a modern-era cowboy and his mechanical steed.
We were a bit disappointed that they didn't have a postcard of King George at the Museum Gift Shop. However, they did have something a little larger for this California Tourist to take home as a momento.

Every once in a while, TSG, and not too often, you possibly cross over into "weird." Always a good weird, however.
Well, I don't know what's so weird about having a cool new beach towel that will likely be the envy of anyone on the sand or pool deck!
Now that I think about it, assembling a photo collection of interesting beach towel designs would be a neat project. Getting the images might be a little tricky though. I would imagine some folks might be a bit wary of some random stranger coming up to them and asking to photograph their towel. Taking pics of towels in stores could be a little challenging as well since I doubt shopkeepers would appreciate having their wares laid out on the floor.
See? Weird begets weird.
Of course, keep in mind that this is being put forth by a guy with a preposterously large souvenir pencil/pen collection.
Now you have me thinking back to lounging on the grass at the Pinehurst pool, grooving to tunes. Were you into interesting beach towels at that point, with the imagery just going right over my head?
Back in the Pinehurst days I'm pretty sure I was just a vanilla (solid color or maybe stripes) beach towel kinda guy. The first towels that I can remember getting specifically for the graphics were when I moved back to San Diego in '96...seen here.
Both of those towels are long gone--relegated to the rag bin of history, so to speak. If I still had the Beatles Cartoon towel it might be worth something--I've seen them listed on auction sites for well over $200
I have to admit, I do like both of those towels. Although my tastes in a Beatles beach towel would probably have veered strongly towards some Yellow Sub theme, of course.
