Our Route 66 itinerary today included a stop at Arcadia Oklahoma's Round Barn:
As is usual in roadside attraction-type spots, there was a card rack display of other places in the region to visit. One in particular caught our eye:
Holy moly! A Macca landmark just down the road! We knew Paul and Nancy had motored west back in 2008 in a '89 Bronco, but we didn't realize there was a sign commemorating one particular stop. After checking out the barn, we made a beeline to the spot to snap a few pics.
Now, here's an odd thing--knowing that McCartney was a fan of Route 66, we were a bit surprised to discover that he has never recorded a cover version of Bobby Troup's paean to America's Main Street. And as far as we can tell, he has never performed it live.

Well, that's maybe a cut below "George Washington slept here," but you work with what you're given. And the backstory itself is cool in context.
"Route 66" dates back to the 40's, but it made its way into the rock n' roll pantheon, at least because the Stones covered it in '64 and used to feature it in their live shows. Wouldn't bet at all against the Beatles having performed it during one of their hours-long shows in Hamburg, right?
I dunno, maybe my google-fu is weak, but I cannot find a single cover version of Route 66 by The Fabs either as a group or as a solo artist. That's not to say they never performed it, but if they did I can't find a mention of it anywhere.
