Nancy and I took Mac to Baker City last summer and checked out that interpretive center and the wagon wheel ruts. I actually liked the latter as compared to the former. Took a lot of wagons to pound those ruts into the ground. All told, something like 400,000 people at least started west on that trail (some splitting off for California while others actually headed for that Oregon Territory) - that's a huge exodus, especially for that time. The grass is always greener, I guess (even if the grass maybe belongs to someone else who was there first).
