Been There, Done That, Got The T̶̷-̶̷s̶̷h̶̷i̶̷r̶̷t̶̷ Towel

The The James Museum in St Petersburg is must-see for anyone interested in artistic depictions of "The West"--the land, it's history, and it's human and animal denizens. One work that caught our eye in the New West Gallery was Billy Schenck's King George, which portrays a modern-era cowboy and his mechanical steed. 

We were a bit disappointed that they didn't have a postcard of King George at the Museum Gift Shop. However, they did have something a little larger for this California Tourist to take home as a momento.

 

Cross(ed) Off The List

One of the truisms of road trips is no matter how much time you have, there's never enough to see everything. Such is the case with Route 66. In our travels along the Mother Road we make an effort on each trip to tick something off the list of sites not seen. One of the items we checked off on the last trip was the 2nd largest cross in the western hemisphere* located in Groom TX. 

There's a interesting collection of statuary surrounding the base of the cross, including, as you would expect, the 14 stations. 

 

Groom has another Route 66 icon,The Leaning Tower of Britten, which we plan to cross off the list the next time we wander along the highway that's the best.

Return Of The Dendroidally-Enhanced Vehicles

After a two year hiatus, the Santa Cruz's traditional first-weekend-of-summer car show, Woodies On The Wharf, was back this past weekend. This year over 200 vintage cars, mostly from the '40s and '50s were on display. Our only complaint: with so many classic cars in such a relatively small area it was hard to get a good angle for full profile pics.
