In temporary exile due to 3 days without power (apartment building electrical panels being replaced), TSG has taken up residence in Monterey's Park Crest Inn.
As is our wont, we did an antique store crawl of the Cannery Row shops in search of interesting vintage paper. Imagine our delight when we came across this postcard from the late 50s/early 60s:
We attempted duplicate the postcard photo but the new pool, landscaping, different camera/lens equipment (and probable street widening) made it tough to achieve the same perspective. You get the general idea. We showed some of the hotel staff the postcard and they got a big kick out of it.
By the way, we can definitely recommend the property for anyone looking for mid-range lodgings. Specifically, try to get room 142, a two-room suite with large windows looking out over the neighborhood to the wharf and bay.

Well. I started out angry at your displacement. How rude. But I ended up rather happy for you. It's a trite cliché (is that redundant?), but you appear to have made lemonade out of lemons. And, yeah, the coincidental finding of that postcard is most excellent.
The "rude" aspect of my displacement was how management did not pro-rate our rent for the three days without power. According to the legal assistance folks I talked to, management is not required by law to pro-rate rent for this "reduction of service". There is an avenue by which tenants can request a hearing and probably "win back" the money. However, none of my neighbors expressed a desire to get behind it...and as an individual I didn't feel it was worth the potential stress of an adversarial relationship with the manager going forward.
Sigh. So, back to "angry" again.
