Celebrity Cruise Ship Redux

Last year we reported on sighting the Western Flyer, the boat John Steinbeck and his friend Ed Ricketts chartered in 1940 for their expedition to the Sea of Cortez

When we discovered the Western Flyer Foundation was offering tours as part of the Monterey Whale Fest, we snagged a ticket and went onboard to check it out. The Flyer looks almost as good as new...kudos to all who worked on the restoration!

That was amusing. That said, I was buried in the music for about the first third of the thing (really liking what I was hearing) and kind of joined the video portion late.

Didn't look like the cruise included any drinks or grub?

Heh...the "cruise" in the title referred to the 1940 expedition. The "tour" wasn't a docent-led event as I had expected, the boat is too small for that. Rather, the ticket was for a timed entry that allowed 10-12 people or so onboard at a time. And no, grub and grog were not included.
