The Sea Otter in question became a Santa Cruz celebrity of sorts after she began "stealing" surfboards when the human riders had fallen off. "Otter 841" climbed aboard unoccupied boards and defended her perch with enough aggression that authorities were called in. As you might expect, Otter 841 merchandise is now a thing, with T-shirts, coffee mugs and stickers available.

841 has recently been seen with a newborn pup and experts hope that motherhood will mellow her out and end her surfboard thieving ways.

I recall reading an article in the paper about that critter. I wonder if, somewhere, there is something like an otter Stonehenge made of somewhat used surfboards?
