Yeah, these things are pretty much the stuff of nightmares. Inspiration, I wonder, for the giant worms in "Dune?"

I normally have an "well, they've gotta make a living too" attitude to, shall we say, less-than cuddly creatures...it ain't their fault they ended up the way they did. And if you think about it, when it comes to Lake Michigan they aren't to blame for ending up there, either.

But I agree, they are pretty nightmarish. Even when they were safely on the other side of (hopefully fairly thick) glass, I didn't want to get too close.
