Not wanting to be outdone by Jamestown's giant bison, the folks of Steel, North Dakota went the mega-avian route and came up with Sandy, the World's Largest Sandhill Crane. Sandy isn't as impressive as the the big buffalo down the road, but there wasn't a throng of selfie-seekers to compete with either, so we had her all to ourselves for our exclusive photo-shoot.

Yeah, there's no reason to ask "why?" We know why.
As these things go, it's not an absolute embarrassment. Parts of it even seem kind of inspired.
The thing I thought was cool about the king-sized Grus canadensis was the sign with specific instructions on how to get a good photo. Not pictured is the "hole" (more like a depression) and the "hill" (a small berm) that provides an excellent photographer/subject angle. Major props to the folks who thought that up.
