Another Odd (And Explosive!) Keepsake Acquisition

TSG's Continuing Series Of Found Object Souvenirs

Found on a chair in the pool area of the Best Western Plus of Washington MO: a pair of small firecrackers probably liberated from a string or brick. Why anyone would take firecrackers into an indoor hotel pool remains a mystery to this reporter

I remember, back as a young kid, greatly coveting firecrackers. They were often not easy to score in Salinas. My best source was often one of my uncles who seemed to visit Mexico regularly and find such things there. Our usual venue for lighting them was my cousin's place out in the country, but a few were also detonated in the local 'hood to the wonder and joy of all concerned.

Growing up in San Diego, my firecracker experience was limited to the offerings in the Red Devil "Safe and Sane" family assortment box. Rather tame compared to the "real" pyrotechnics available from pop-up vendors across the nation these days, but still fun in a Norman Rockwell kinda way.
