That's cool. Probably one of the first odd-ball annual events I ever became aware of. And that happened via a Dennis the Menace comic book. Dennis and his folks visited that area coincidentally the day of the frog jumping contest. Dennis ends up wrangling a little girl's frog into first place using a variety of tricks. A long-forgotten memory conjured up by your pix.
Hmmm...I'm surprised they didn't have a copy of the comic in the exhibition. A casual search indicates the issue is available, seems like a no-brainer that they would grab a copy to put on display.
