This one was a bit more mysterious than an empty package of dry ice. Seen by the sidewalk's edge on our way to the grocery store, the vintage advertisement and graphic stood out, looking much different than the run-of-the-mill flotsam seen on our neighborhood rambles:
Curiosity piqued, we carefully folded the crumpled and torn page and transported back to the abode for further investigation. To say that we were surprised by our research would be a major understatement. Turns out that this is a fragment from a pamphlet published in 1928. We found these images and description of the pamphlet on the Worthpoint.com website
"Unusual ad pamphlet for Pinkham's, which made
tonics for women to help with monthly periods and other "female
complaints". Back cover shows a bi-plane flying over an exotic tropical
location with Pinkham's advertising on the wings.Includes several pages
illustrating products and many testimonials from product users. Also
includes many short articles of interest on far-flung places: pearl
diving in the Persian Gulf, the scenery by the Suez Canal, Korean
hermits near the Manchurian border, cork forest of Spain, chamomile
fields of Hungary (which supplied Pinkham's)."
Hmmm...how interesting, and how odd to find by the side of Race Street in present-day Willow Glen.

I wonder if that page was part of a larger load of long-stored stuff that someone took to the curb or dumpster, and from which that page blew away?
The only things missing are the clues and the "X" to indicate where the treasure is secreted.
I didn't think about it at the time, but I found the page not far from the Garden City Recycle and Salvage warehouse. The blurb on their website says they deal in "Reclaimed Lumber, Custom Milling, Antiques and Curiosities recycled from local building sites."
I think that's probably as close to solving the case as I could hope for.
