Sigh. The world is filled with prank food (and those who actually talk themselves into liking their culture's prank food). In my particular corner of heritage possibilities (i.e., Scandinavian), one leading prank food is lutefisk. Half the family purports to adore and treasure the stuff, and the sane half prefers real food.
When and why someone was so desperate for sustenance that they sampled the subject of this posting is one thing; that it became a thing is something else again.
I seem to recall flyers promoting similar events in my travels through the Western States. But this one--posted at the venerable Gizdich Ranch Pie Shop--caught my eye as being a bit incongruous considering the shop's bill of fare. (I had a slice of rhubarb pie which was quite tasty)
