The Wreck Of The E̶d̶m̶u̶n̶d̶ ̶F̶i̶t̶z̶g̶e̶r̶a̶l̶d̶ H̶e̶s̶p̶e̶r̶u̶s̶ Golden Ray

Back in September of 2019, the car transport freighter the Golden Ray ran into trouble shortly after departing Brunswick, GA and capsized in St. Simons Sound.  It was declared a total loss along with it's cargo of over 4,200 vehicles. More than two years later the salvage operation continues, with a gigantic chainsaw-like device cutting the ship into pieces while a huge crane continues to transfer the mangled automobile carcasses to a barge.

These photos taken from the top of the St. Simon Lighthouse and the St. Simons Island Pier.

Nasty.

I suppose that half of those submerged vehicles will end up in some auto auction place and end up in used car lots after they go through some remediation program.

That's a LOT of cars. Must have been a big ship.
