Sussing Out The Giant Crab Of Eureka

Passing through the NorCal burg of Eureka this afternoon, TSG got a drive-by glimpse of this oversized metal crustacean where 101 bends south just past the downtown area. At the moment we were disinclined to stop for further investigation, so we took to the interwebs to do a little sleuthing later on.

A quick google street view search showed the big guy there as well:

A little more digging came up with a slightly better image and a couple of local stories revealing that the big crab was created by metal shop owner Dan McCauley for the town's 2018 Street Art Festival and subsequently made an appearance at Burning Man in 2019.

So now we (and you) know (at least some of) the rest of the story.

Ah. Burning Man. Makes total sense.

Gotta say, as giant metal crustaceans go, this one is pretty well done.

That giant crab is definitely better looking that the one Russell Johnson (Gilligan's Professor) did battle with in the 1957 classic Attack of the Crab Monsters.

I always thought that, grammatically speaking, that should have been "Attack of the Monster Crabs," right?
