Re: the bird pic...the valley ravens are smart enough to know where to hang out for crumbs and handouts. In some spots they've taken over the tourist-begging niche traditionally held by squirrels.
Re: being snowed in - the valley itself is around 4000 ft and does get some snow, but it's usually reachable by the "all weather" route (CA 140) in the winter. CA 120 and CA 41 are subject to closures after storms but they keep them open for the most part. Warning signs are posted at every entrance that chains may be required at any time, and it's a good idea to be prepared. This particular time, the 5-day forecast was for almost springlike temps and the roads were all open and in good shape.

Ultra-cool place, no? And it's getting so hard these days to find any remaining trees that are capable of waving, too.
I like the bird pic, mostly cuz it's not just standing there but appears to be taking a walkabout.
Isn't it usually snowed in at this time of year? 63 degrees?
