Spotted in Walnut Canyon on the way to Carlsbad Caverns...Barbary Sheep, native to North Africa, became established in New Mexico in the mid 20th Century after being imported as zoological specimens and game animals. Efforts to reduce the population in Carlsbad Caverns National Park are ongoing.

Guess we need to import some lions?
Excellent photos, by the way, TSG. Ones that demand further scrutiny and examination.
I have to give credit for this sighting to another tourist group who had stopped on the side of the road and were obviously checking something out on the hillside above. I slowed down to see what they were doing and saw the sheep. Otherwise I might have driven by without seeing the them.
