Seen in front of the Hotel Nevada in downtown Ely,TSG spotted our old bike,
a '95 Specialized Rockhopper A1 Comp in great condition.
We recently replaced our vintage Rockhopper with a Trek Dual Sport 1,
which, sad to say, has had a LOT of issues. We're seriously considering going back to the 'hopper when we return from the current road trip. Maybe we can trade the Trek in for credit towards overhauling/upgrading the elder 'cycle.

Sorry to hear that the Trek ain't living up to expectations. That's a drag.
In my humble opinion, this is a case of "newer isn't necessarily better". Now, the old Rockhopper doesn't have the best components--most notably it lacks disc brakes*, but by almost any standard, it's a better ride than than the two(?!) bikes I've bought to replace it with over the last 10 years.
One may ask why I went with a Trek when I liked my Specialized so much. Well, the Trek free. It was the only item in the retirement award in the catalog that interested me at all and I was thinking about a getting a new bike. Oh well...
*disc brakes, which are now standard on most new mountain bikes, are supposed to be a major improvement over the old styles. But in the 5 months I've had the new Trek, I've had to take it in for both front and rear brakes squeaking and had to replace one set of pads due to some kind of "contamination". Not a good track record, Trek guys.
