Thank You, Supreme Court

For not hearing the case of the rich guy who wants to close down access to Martins Beach! It's good to know that this cool spot will remain open for folks like TSG to enjoy!

Bigger than a cove, smaller than a bay?

The water side, and side-side, are very picturesque. The road down, however, is kind of festooned with, well, crap and junk. Goodness. Is that part of the rich guy's scheme? Make it groady enough to discourage people from making their way down?

The story as I understand it the ramshackle collection of buildings was owned by a family who charged to park in a dirt lot down by the water. They also had a snack shop for the beachgoing public (one of the derelict shacks in the photo).

Anywhoo, the family sold the land to Mr. Rich Guy and he decided he didn't want to be in the beach day-use business and he didn't want to have to deal with pesky tourists. So his answer was to shut down the road going down to the beach. Thus ensued a long series of legal proceedings that ended up where we are today, with public access being preserved.

It wouldn't be much of a public beach without some reasonable public access. Guessing that's how the court rolled.

Ha. In an article in the local paper today, about some distant rich guy who's been buying up land in Idaho and Wyoming and who just put up a locked gate at a public access road that crosses his new property, they mentioned your Mr. Rich Guy and the Supreme's refusal to consider his whining about denying access via that road to that beach.
