When TSG saw this whilst rambling around Port Angeles,
we thought it was some sort of fantasy ship.
Turns out the art-deco Kalakala was the real deal.
It ran various routes in Puget Sound between 1934 and 1967.

Pulled me in immediately. I read the article on Wikipedia about the Kalakala. Quite the history. To some large extent, form trumped function, a tradeoff that seemed to make it increasingly difficult to find a decent, modern role for her. Still, for a while, she was the 2nd most photographed object on the planet (though how, exactly, one proves that beats me).
