There's gotta be a story to go with this, but the artist was not available for comment.
Update: Pete The Cat turned out to be the star of a popular kid-lit series.
Speaking of literary icons...

So . . . what then? This Xmas tree was at a local library? Somebody went to at least a bit of effort to make those ornaments. Unless this was just the "characters of literature and history" branch, I am presuming that the whole tree is thusly festooned. If only I'd know, I could have sent an Engleknot Face ornament.
The ornaments were on two different trees at Christmas in the Park. They had 600 decorated trees this year--supposedly a new world record. Themes ran from The Silicon Valley Roller Girls to Mrs Smith's 3rd Grade Class to the Low Riders Club to the SJSU Chemistry Department to Saddath Relocation Systems and more. The Asimov/Jefferson/Vonnegut ornaments were on the San Jose Humanist Community tree. A Engleknot Face ornament would fit in there somewhere, I'm sure.
Double wow. Sounds like anyone willing to dec the tree would have been welcome. That, in turn, has me thinking about a Baja Brigade tree. Maybe make ornaments out of printed old pictures and such pasted onto cardboard and like that. And maybe get a little guitar ornament and paint it up like the "Yeast" guitar. Kinda liking this. Think I might keep my eyes peeled for a cheapo small pre-lit Xmas tree in the post-Xmas sale-a-thon that I can use for such a purpose, and display the properly decorated tree in the studio each season.
