Route 66 really is a living museum of sorts. I've always been amused when I walk a couple of blocks from my office in downtown Chicago to Jackson Street and see the Route 66 signs there at the eastern terminus of 66, and consider the amusing things at numerous points west therefrom.

Gumby and Lizardbreath have probably been down that stretch a half-dozen times. To me it's one of the best segments of the Mother Road. Never much traffic, long straightaways, lazy curves through rolling hills and valleys with mesas and canyons off in the distance, and looooong freight trains running the rails alongside the road the whole way from Kingman to Seligman. Yee haw.

I didn't realize that all of this also involved a kind of riding the one after nine oh nine.
