Gotta appreciate any song that features a motorcycle as a relevant visual prop.
I've never dug very deep into Tubes territory. Perhaps I should.
Was the speaker squashing thing a gimmick, or did a stack actually fall on this guy?
Then again, the Who's pyrotechnics were a gimmick, but that didn't make it any less dangerous, did it?
[Late reply...sorry!] Re: the speaker stack--they're made of styrofoam or something similar. I think with The Tubes, you kinda had to be there to get the appeal. They gigged heavily in the Bay Area in the second half of the 70s and they got a lot of FM airplay to go along with that. Their quirky lyrics and songs accounted for their popularity and, I think, were the reason for them not hitting the big time. They were (and still are) an excellent band and put our some great sounding,complex,and very funny music. But I think the quirky lyrics and songs pigeonholed them as a circus/parody act instead of a "serious" rock band (whatever that might mean)
