The Morro Bay Skateboard Museum is owned/curated by Jack Smith, '74 Leigh HS grad and former resident of Mt. Umunhum Air Force Station. (Note: TSG never got past the "2x4 w/skate wheels" stage...too many surprise dismountings for our tastes)

I had a nice board for its day, but I stopped skating before the real advances came in wheel and truck design. By the time my son messed about with skating for awhile, the boards were massive (comparatively speaking) and the trucks incredibly twisty and bendy. Seemed incredibly unstable to me when I gave 'em a try.
As for those unexpected dismountings, I remember my worst episode - I was letting Julie pull me around Pinehurst on my board, when a small rock on the sidewalk instigated one of those dismountings and I ended up landing in, and then being pulled through (by dog momentum, the leash being well attached to my wrist), a big patch of roses. Ouch!
By the way, the best pic in this show is the Rat Fink image - loved that guy!!!
