Well, there is "shady" as in sheltered from the sun, and then there's "shady" as in not trustworthy; disreputable. I'm kinda thinking that maybe that sign is more about truth in advertising than any homage to the TV show . . . .
With THAT in mind, however, I'm kinda wondering if there might not be a Hootersville nearby that could be worth visiting???
My guess is that this particular Shady Rest was a decent enough place to overnight back in the day (whatever day that was) Now it appears to provide lodging for transient agricultural workers. I sort of wanted to wander around to get a few more pics but the residents that I saw standing in the doorways giving me the eye didn't look very welcoming.
Although San Miguel will probably never be mistaken for Hooterville, there is a (not so)little train that comes rolling down the tracks just across the street from The Shady Rest. Unfortunately for potential visitors, there isn't a depot in town.
