Not Quite Ready To Fly Away Home

A gathering of coccinellidae pupae seen on the corner of 5th and West Spain while wandering around Sonoma, Ca.

"Beetles," not "bugs." (Akin to "Shaken, not stirred.")

Interesting that these are grouped. Some larvae are known to turn cannibal on other larvae that are working on doing the pupae thing, which would lead me to think, in my ignoramus way, that you wouldn't find these little grubbers clustered like this.

I've noticed a bumper crop of the pre-ladybug larvae in our neck o' wooks lately. They may have cannibalistic tendencies, but they really like to chow down on aphids.
