We passed by this spot several years ago...one of those "oops, missed the exit, maybe next time" moments. (easy enough on the 500-mile trek between Reno and SLC)

The "restoration" seems more like benign neglect--the buildings are all fenced off--but we appreciate the effort.  

 

Elko Surprise

No offense to any Elko-ites out there, but TSG's pasr visits to The Big E have been less than exciting. Not much more than a pit stop or maybe just an overnighter after a long day in the saddle.  This time out we decided to visit the nearby Ruby Mountains and explored a little bit of the spectacular Lamoille Canyon. Turned out to be really worth a 3-hour side trip. The hills were alive with the sound of, um, cascades of fresh snowmelt coming down the canyon walls. Pretty cool spot.

Intersecting Road Trips, Intersecting Bloggers

Today's itinerary included a visit to Twin Falls' dual park complex of Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake. According to our research there was a diving board available at Dierkes Lake--always a grail on our trips--so off we went.

 Not only did we arrive just at the right time of day to catch a double rainbow at the falls, there was hardly anyone at the lake.  The diving board was a bit stiff but still fun and the water wasn't freezing..so a win-win there.

Topping the cake of today's visit was spotting a sticker on the back of the SUV parked next to us.  While it's a given that our road trip intersects scores of other similar journeys, seeing a family "advertising" their adventure-blog on a custom-made sticker...that's a first for us.  Looks like they're having a great trip.
