Rock Stars Behaving Nautically

The Nelson's Pursuit Race is an end-of-year event staged by the Antigua Yacht Club. This pursuit race includes four classes – Classic, Cruiser, Cruiser/Racer, and Racing. Originally conceived as a fun event to add to the festive season, the race commemorates Lord Nelson’s famous pursuit of the French fleet under the command of Admiral Pierre Villeneuve across the Atlantic in 1805.

The 2011 race saw winds well over 20 knots & seas over 10 feet. It made for some challenging racing conditions. The overall winner was Safara (72 feet) which was on charter to Pete Townshend.



"All I did was write cheques and sit on deck looking deck-orative," said Townshend.

The late Charles B Pierce (pictured above) wrote, directed, produced and starred in our all-time favorite Mystery Science episode, Boggy Creek II: And the Legend Continues...(aka The Barbaric Beast of Boggy Creek Part II, Boggy Creek Part II).  The guy wore a lot of hats, including this green one.

So, yeah, that's pretty trivial, but here's the good part...

He also wrote one of the most quoted lines in movie history.  Well, according to wikipedia, anyway. (and you can believe them because they're always right)

The phrase "go ahead, make my day" was written by Charles B. Pierce, an Independent Film Maker who is credited with "story by" in the film "Sudden Impact". The actual origins of the phrase came from Pierce's father Mack, who used to tell him as a child, "just let me come home one more day, without you mowing that lawn, son just go ahead.....make my day"
