Still Mad About Monkees

After a good concert, we usually have a kinda-sorta joyful buzz that lasts for a couple of days or maybe a week. However, much to our surprise and delight, we still have a nice MonkeeBuzzTM going on three weeks after the fact. Since the ninth, we've used Head and The Monkees 2001 Summer Tour (uncut) as workout videos. We've also purchased The Monkees Music Box 4-CD set (nice find at Streelight Records) and the MP3 deluxe versions of Headquarters and Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. Not only that, but we've just started reading The Long Sandy Hair of Neftoon Zamora. Without a doubt, Monkeemania still lives here in our little(teeny tiny itsy-bitsy) corner of the 'net!

All very good, TSG. I recently scored the deluxe version of PAC&J myself and very much enjoyed the bonus tracks. Is the Headquarters one the one filled with demo tracks and such?

As for the pix, it seems mildly ironic that back when Nesmith had a full head of hair, he wore that wool hat all the time, while now, when such a hat would help to cut down on the overhead glare reflections, he goes bareheaded.

Then again, to some extent I can plead guilty to much the same behavior and circumstances. Of course, I rarely have to put up with bright stage lighting shining down from on high.

The "deluxe" Headquarters has a bunch of alternate/mono mixes, but I almost got "The Headquarters Sessions", which has raw unmixed tracks and rarities. It's pretty pricey, even as an MP3.

Mike was wool-cap-less, true.(but notice the girl in the hotpants is sporting one) Instead, Nesmith wore a slightly bemused expression most of the night. It was like he was still trying to wrap his head around being back with The Monkees again in front of such an enthusiastic audience.

Some good stuff is showing up on Youtube from this tour. I particularly enjoyed a video of Nesmith "playing" the part of the Moog in the performance of Daily Nightly.

One thing you won't get on those videos is how great Mike's 12-string sounded (at least where I was sitting). He had it ringing, chiming and jingle-jangling like an old Rickenbacker.
