A valid concern, of course, especially since great whites have been spotted about 5 miles away in Aptos this year. As far as I know, there hasn't been a recorded shark attack on a beach goer at the Boardwalk Beach in recent memory...but a kayak was bitten off Steamers Lane (about 2 miles north) in 2017.
Were I in the water, I'd be thinking (in order of thought):
