Wow. A classic example perhaps, of the old maxim, "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." You just can't make stuff like this up.

I wish I had a souvenir pencil from their turkey days. Dang.

According to Wikipedia, Turlock was named, not after turkeys, but Turloch, an Irish Village.

According to our sources in Ramona, Turkey Queen Dottie Richardson's original feathered gown still exists, stored away in an undisclosed location.

Also worth noting, one of the Turkey Day events featured an airplane dropping parachute-equipped lunch pails with turkey sandwiches inside. All of this happened more than 4 decades before the infamous WKRP "Turkeys Away" episode.
